MUST READ ARTICLE, CHECK THE LINK BELOW TO KNOW REASON WHY YOU MUST EAT ONION....

Turns out that onions are nothing to cry over — these flavorful bulbs are packed with nutrients. "Onions are super-healthy," said Victoria Jarzabkowski, a nutritionist with the Fitness Institute of Texas at the University of Texas at Austin. "They are excellent sources of vitamin C, sulphuric compounds, flavonoids and phytochemicals." Phytochemicals, or phytonutrients, are naturally occurring compounds in fruits and vegetables that are able to react with the human body to trigger healthy reactions. Flavonoids are responsible for pigments in many fruits and vegetables. Studies have shown that they may help reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease, cardiovascular desease and stroke Jarzabkowski explained that a particularly valuable flavonoid in onions is quercetin, which acts as an antioxidant that may be linked to preventing cancer. It has a host of other benefits, as well, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, reducing the symptoms of bladder infections, promoting prostate health and lowering blood pressure. Other important phytochemicals in onions are disulfides, trisulfides, cepaene and vinyldithiins. They all are helpful in maintaining good health and have anticancer and antimicrobial properties, according to the National Onion Association. Partly because of their use in cooking around the world, onions are among the most significant sources of antioxidants in the human diet, according to a 2002 report in the journal Phytotherapy Research. Their high levels of antioxidants give onions their distinctive sweetness and aroma. These antioxidants and flavonoids may help promote heart health, reduce inflammation and decrease the risk of cancer, in addition to a load of other good things. "I like to recommend eating onions because they add flavor without salt and sugar," Jarzabkowski said. Onions are low in calories (45 per serving), very low in sodium, and contain no fat or cholesterol. Furthermore, onions contain fiber and folic acid, a B vitamin that helps the body make healthy new cells. Onions are healthy whether they're raw or cooked, though raw onions have higher levels of organic sulfur compounds that provide many benefits, according to the BBC. A 2005 study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that there is a high concentration of flavonoids in the outer layers of onion flesh, so you'll want to be careful to remove as little of the edible part of the onion as possible when peeling it. Here are the nutrition facts for onions, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which regulates food labeling through the National Labeling and Education Act. ase

Chad executes 10 Boko Haram suspects by firing squad clik the link below to know more about the story

They were executed this morning on a shooting ground north of N'Djamena," a judicial source told AFP. The report was confirmed by a security source who asked not to be identified. The 10 were condemned to death Friday in the country's first trial of presumed members of the Islamist group. The hearings opened Wednesday. Nigeria's neighbours Chad, Cameroon and N
iger have all suffered attacks by Boko Haram and earlier this year they announced a regional force to end the militants' insurgency that has claimed more than 15,000 lives since 2009. The defendants were accused of criminal conspiracy, killings, wilful destruction with explosives, fraud, illegal possessions of arms and ammunition, as well as using psychotropic substances. The accused include Nigerian national Mahamat Mustapha, also known as Bana Fanaye, who according to Chadian authorities masterminded the June 15 suicide attacks that struck a school and a police building in N'Djamena, killing 38 people and injuring 101. On July 12, a fresh attack in the Chadian capital claimed by Boko Haram left at least 15 dead and 80 hurt after an assailant dressed as a woman blew himself up in the central marketplace. Shortly after Fanaye's arrest in late June, Chad's top prosecutor Alghassim Kassim said the suspect was the "ringleader of a network smuggling weapons and munitions between Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad". Chad has beefed up security in response to the bloodshed.

According to him, the president has, therefore directed that the ministry be co-opted into the 13-man investigative committee to probe the procurement of hardware and ammunition for the Armed Forces. “We briefed Mr. President on the activities of the ministry and Defence Headquarters and he was happy with the operations of the ministry, the operation we are in now is the fight against insurgency. There is substantial progress and achievements to talk about. He has asked us to continue with the momentum and is very willing to support the needs of the Armed Forces,” Aliyu said. Speaking further, he noted that “the ministry was involved in the procurement of arms sometime ago, but in recent years, the responsibility was shifted to the services”. Ismaila expressed happiness with the establishment of the committee to probe the past procurement of military hardware, explaining that the president directed during the meeting that the ministry be co-opted into the probe panel. “Mr. President has asked that the Ministry of Defence be included in that (arms probe) committee. “The ministry was involved in the procurement in those years, so definitely we have something to present to that committee. “So, we are part and parcel of that committee. The ministry is very excited that this committee has been formed; because our own concern apart from the administrative and financial support is to make sure that policy thrust is complied with. “Procurement of relevant equipment according to specification of Nigerian Armed Forces is being complied with and we are very happy with that. Personal Quotes (9) "Haters keep on hating, cause somebody's gotta do it". Everything is good, I'm definitely - me personally and mentally - I'm a great guy now. I'm more of a person who is definitely more positive. I'm in the studio, back and forth, continuously, just having fun. I'm going to continue to make great dance videos and just be me. The new album is called 'F.A.M.E.': Forgiving All My Enemies. Basically, just being able to witness my success, failure and success again. Being able to see me going from my best times to my worst times and being able to overcome it and growing into a man, as I was doing it. [on the GMA incident]: Yes, I got very emotional and I apologize for acting like that. I felt like, 'OK, they told us this just so they can get us on the show so they can exploit me.' I kind of took it very, very hard. And I kept my composure throughout the interview, although you could see me upset, you know. I kept my composure and did my performances, and when I got back, I just let off, like, steam in the back. [on writing the song "Disturbia" which he later gave to Rihanna] It's fun being creative and even if you have a concept in your head to write about, you can write it and give it to someone else because it might not personally fit you, but it might be an idea you have. So with (Rihanna) that was an idea I had. I just wanted to go totally left and kind of weird, and that's what I threw at her. (2008). [on Justin Bieber] He reminds me a lot of me when I was younger. I kind of try and be the big brother and make him go the right way and have a great time. As a 23-year-old young entertainer, I want the world to see my art and hopefully be inspired by it, promote positivity with what I do now - with painting, with fashion, with directing, with creativity as far as videos and cinema. I want to have people admire that and hopefully have people follow in my footsteps. Symphonic Love does programmes in schools, like with my school back home. Musical programmes and helping kids with disabilities. I do a lot of stuff with Best Buddies that coexists with that. The name comes from a tattoo that I've got - something that's over my heart right now. So my heart is where it's at. The tattoo "symphonic love" encompasses the positivity of what I'm trying to do thank you all

Boko Haram leader Shekau says he is alive check it out and know some fact about him

LAGOS: Abubakar Shekau says he is alive and still the leader of Islamist sect Boko Haram, denying reports he is dead, according to a new audio message quoted on social media on Sunday. Reuters could not independently verify the authenticity of the audio message. Social media feed of jihad monitoring site Site Intelligence quoted a new audio message released from Shekau denying reports that he is unable to serve as leader. There have been several claims by Nigeria's military that Shekau has been killed over the last few years but he keeps resurfacing in new videos or it could be "impostors" posing with the same name, security sources have said. Last week Chad's President Idriss Deby said Boko Haram leader Shekau was wounded and has been replaced as leader by Mahamoud Daoud, adding that Shekau went to Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, after he was wounded. Deby said the new Boko Haram leader, whom little is known about, was open to the idea of talks with Abuja. "Infidel media published that I'm dead, or sick and can't speak, this is an utter lie." Rita Katz, director of Site Intelligence posted on her social media site quoting Shekau as saying to ISIS leader, Baghdadi. "If this was true how is that I can speak now?" message signed as ISIS head of west Africa province. Shekau's last video appearance was in February, when a person claiming to be him -- analysts believe he may have been impersonated -- threatened to disrupt Nigeria's presidential elections held the following month. The group has released at least five videos since then but Shekau has not appeared in any of them. Suspected members of the militant group Boko Haram have killed more than 600 people in Africa's most populous nation in a spate of bombings and shootings since Buhari was inaugurated as president on May 29, according to a Reuters tally. Efforts to reach an agreement to end the violence, including a 2014 deal fostered by Chad, have repeatedly failed during the six-year insurgency waged by the group in its bid to set up a state in the northeast adhering to strict Islamic laws.

United Nation's Ban Ki-Moon in Nigeria in Wake of Attack on Army Chief check it out and the real fact

Abuja: UN chief Ban Ki-moon began a two-day visit to Nigeria Sunday in the wake of a suspected Boko Haram ambush on the army chief, saying it was "a time of hope" despite the rise of extremism. Combating Islamist violence is expected to be high on the agenda as the secretary-general holds talks with President Muhammadu Buhari, whose inauguration in May sparked a massive upsurge in jihadist attacks. "Across our world, we see insecurity, inequality, growing divides," Ban told a private meeting of state governors in Abuja, according to a UN statement. "Here in Nigeria, you know the challenges all too well -- including the rise of extremism and the lack of equal opportunity. "I know this is a deep and vital challenge in particular for the governors of the northeast... This is also a time of hope. I want to commend you and all of Nigeria's leaders for the peaceful democratic transition of power." Ban touched down at Abuja's international airport just hours after the military revealed Boko Haram fighters had ambushed a convoy carrying Nigeria's army chief-of-staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai. The senior officer, who was unharmed, was visiting troops Saturday when insurgents attacked in Faljari village, 45 kilometres (28 miles) east of Borno State capital Maiduguri, army spokesman Sani Usman said in a statement. 'Overwhelming firepower' "The terrorists encountered an overwhelming firepower from the troops in which 10 of them were killed. The troops captured five terrorists," he said. "During the encounter, sadly, we lost a soldier, while an officer and four soldiers sustained gunshot wounds." Boko Haram has stepped up its attacks in Borno and two neighbouring states in its northeastern heartland since Buhari came to power in May. The Islamists have also carried out deadly ambushes across Nigeria's borders and in recent weeks suicide bombers, many of them women, have staged several attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad. The fresh wave of violence has claimed more than 1,000 lives over the last three months, dealing a setback to a four-country offensive launched in February that had chalked up a number of victories against the jihadists. An 8,700-strong Multi-National Joint Task Force, drawing in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin, is expected to go into action soon. Military officials have said it will be more effective than the current alliance in the battle to end Boko Haram's six-year insurgency, which has claimed at least 15,000 lives. "This a crucial moment for Nigeria," said Ban, on his second visit to Africa's largest economy since taking office in 2007. "You face many serious challenges but you have also taken a hugely important step to move forward in a way that can respond to the aspirations of the country's people." Deadly UN bombing Before his departure the UN chief will lay a wreath to commemorate the fourth anniversary of a Boko Haram bombing at Abuja's United Nations House, the headquarters for around 400 UN employees, that left 21 dead in June 2011. He is also due to dine with captains of industry and discuss "democracy, human rights and countering violent extremism" in a meeting at the foreign ministry. Ban last visited Nigeria in May 2011 to discuss the crises in southern Sudan and Libya with then leader Goodluck Jonathan. Buhari, who came to power on May 29 vowing to destroy Boko Haram, replaced his military leaders earlier in August, ordering his new chiefs-of-staff to end the insurgency within three months. The military under Jonathan was heavily criticised for poor handling of the insurgency and its failure to free more than 200 schoolgirls abducted from the northeastern town of Chibok in April last year. Ban is due to head to France late on Monday to discuss preparations for a major climate change conference to be held in Paris in December.

Ban Ki-Moon Marks Deadly Boko Haram Attack on UN in Nigeria check it out and know some fact

Abuja: UN chief Ban Ki-moon laid a wreath in conflict-hit Nigeria's capital today to commemorate the fourth anniversary of a deadly attack on the global body by Boko Haram militants. The secretary-general hugged several relatives of the victims of the bombing during a ceremony at United Nations House and praised "the extraordinary fortitude and determination" of the survivors. "Our fallen colleagues and partners will be remembered this morning with a moment of silence in many places," he said. "But nowhere are the memories of these colleagues more immediate, more vivid and more compelling than here in Abuja. We will remember them forever as truly the best of humanity." At least 21 people were said to have died when a bomb-laden car exploded at UN House, the headquarters for around 400 employees, on August 26, 2011. The death toll rose to 24 in the months that followed, according to the United Nations, with 12 non-UN staff among the victims. The radical Islamist sect Boko Haram, blamed for the deaths of at least 15,000 people during a six-year-insurgency, mainly in the country's northeast, claimed responsibility for the attack. "The terrorists attacked the United Nations and destroyed the lives of many colleagues. But we have a mandate to build. To better the lives of people in need," Ban said. Deadly Ambushes Ban arrived in Abuja on Sunday for a two-day visit during which he is due to hold talks with Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari, with violent extremism high on the agenda, as well as development and climate change. "Across our world, we see insecurity, inequality, growing divides," Ban told a private meeting of state governors in Abuja late on Sunday, according to a UN statement. "Here in Nigeria, you know the challenges all too well -- including the rise of extremism and the lack of equal opportunity." Ban touched down at Abuja's international airport just hours after the military revealed suspected Boko Haram fighters had ambushed a convoy carrying Nigeria's army chief-of-staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai. The officer was unharmed but one soldier and 10 militants died in the ensuing firefight, in Faljari village, east of Borno State capital Maiduguri, according to army spokesman Sani Usman. Boko Haram has stepped up its attacks in Borno and two neighbouring states in its northeastern heartland since Buhari came to power on May 29. The Islamists have also carried out deadly ambushes across Nigeria's borders and in recent weeks suicide bombers, many of them women, have staged several attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad. Countering Extremism The fresh wave of violence has claimed more than 1,000 lives over the last three months, dealing a setback to a four-country offensive launched in February that had chalked up a number of victories against the jihadists. An 8,700-strong Multi-National Joint Task Force, drawing in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin, is expected to go into action soon. The military under Jonathan was heavily criticised for poor handling of the insurgency and its failure to free more than 200 schoolgirls abducted from the northeastern town of Chibok in April last year. The "Bring Back Our Girls" campaign marks 500 days on Thursday since the girls were captured.
